Impossible Booty Standards

We all know the Kardashian's and Jenner's rule social media. They're known for their luxurious houses, cars, closets but most importantly their bodies. They create these impossible life and body standards that we cannot live up too.

Not only do these women create body standards that we cannot live up too, but they claim that the bodies are real and they use those bodies too create a profit for themselves.

Let's start with the youngest of the sisters, Kylie Jenner. According to Life and Style magazine, at just 17 is when Kylie got lip fillers. Getting lip fillers at such a young age allows for other females of such a young age to believe that they need lip fillers as well. For the first few months after getting the lip fillers she didn't admit to getting them, but finally after her sisters convinced her it was better to just come out and tell the truth, she did. We could continue about how everyone is talking about how Kylie has had work on her butt, waist and boobs but those are bringing her millions like her lips are. Kylie launched cosmetic line in 2016 that has become an empire. Since the first launch of her cosmetic line she has had her website crash due to having to many people on at once, almost al products sell out after minutes, and she has now opened two Kylie Cosmetic stores. In my opinion, if Kylie hadn't gotten her lips done I truly don't believe her cosmetic line would be so successful. Although Kylie already has the advantage of being famous to sell her products, I don't think she would've been so successful without plump lips. Kylie's cosmetic line started with lip kits, the way she promoted those lips kits was by posting pictures of her wearing the lip kits. Now if Kylie had "no lips" instead of plump lips would she actually have the empire she has today?

Khloe Kardashian went from being the "fat' sister to the "fit sister." Now Khloe was never "fat" but of course the media didn't think that. Khloe is now promoting her show "Revenge Body". Yes, Khloe has come a long way but there are certain things that don't make sense to me. Khloe works out on a daily basis even multiple times a day with the best personal trainers around. If you've ever been to a gym and talked to a trainer you know prices range anywhere from $40-$150 an hour. Those are just prices for trainers at the gym, so imagine what the Kardashian's are paying to have top of the line trainers come to their homes to train. Of course to these women this is pocket change but not too everyone else. So to promote fitness the way she does is almost a joke. Let's not forget about her booty work outs as if her booty was totally natural. Khloe has also created a denim line called "Good American." Good American was created for women of all sizes. Which I love, but if Khloe didn't have a large booty would her line actually get the attention of women with larger bottoms? I don't think so.

The Kardashian's and Jenner's rule social media. They have millions of follower on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. They have millions of people constantly saying negative things about them and their bodies. They have so much pressure too look good that in a way you can understand why they do so much to there bodies. But its a visicous cycle. The more people hate on their bodies, the more pressure these women feel to look perfect therefore creating these body images that we cannot live up too.

Cover Boy

According to standard social norms, girls wear make up and boys don't. Everyday more and more males are beginning to wear make up, cross dress, and do many other things that are out of the social norm.

The Internet is full of of makeup tutorials, there are thousands of make-up ads, and they all have one thing in common; females. Makeup tutorials made by girls for girls and tv commercials for makeup are all with female models. But not anymore. Everyday, there are more males buying makeup, wearing makeup, and creating makeup tutorials. We can thank social media for this.

James Charles is one of the first of many males to promote makeup on social media. With over 70,000 youtube subscribers and over 1.5 million followers on instagram its no wonder Cover Girl wanted him on their campaign.

James Charle's isn't the only male make up artist, but he was the first to get noticed and help change society's look on females and males wearing makeup. I think it's extremely important that these social norms continue to change. Makeup is a type of art, there are so many things you can do with makeup and a persons face. So who gets to say that makeup is only for girls?

"Plus Size" Models

If there are two magazines next to each other, one is a man with a six-pack on the cover and the other has a man with beer belly on the cover, which would you buy?  If a little girl is buying a Ken to her Barbie will she pick the one without the six-pack abs?

When you Google the definition of “plus size” you get the definition; (of clothing or people) of a size larger than the normal range. This definition is generated from the oxford dictionaries. Well first who decides what the “normal size range” is to begin with? And second, why is “plus size” always associated only with women? When you walk into a store like Forever 21 there is a “plus size” section for females but not for males. Don’t get me wrong; we’ve made a tremendous amount of progress in the modeling world. We went from only seeing size 0-4 women on covers of magazines to seeing women of size 10 and above. We see these women on Vogue, Maxim, Self, Sports Illustrated and many more. There are even “plus size” Barbie’s. But there is one thing in common here; all of the body activist movements have been for women.  Males featured on the covers of magazines are still men with six-packs.  There are no “plus size” male models. If you type in “plus size male models” in the Google search engine and look at the images, you only see women.  Why is that? Ashley Graham and Iskra Lawrence are just two of the female body activist models that have greatly impacted society. Iskra Lawrence is a model for Arie and has been on the cover of many magazines. Ashley Graham was the first “plus size” model on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swim Suits in 2016 and had the first “plus size” Barbie designed after her. They’re both body activists whose Instragrams are filled with pictures of themselves showing off their flaws reminding women that it's okay to have them and to be happy in your own skin. These models along with many other body activists have helped females all over the world with body image. But women aren’t the only ones who have insecurities. Men do too.  I think the reason the body activist movement for men hasn’t begun is because society is still stuck with these stereotypes that men are supposed to be tough and don’t share feelings while women are always worried about being judged, being too emotional, and their body image. Which in my opinion is wrong. Men have just as much insecurity as women and I hope the body activist movement continues for women but also for men.
